A spectacular Jody Banim goal sealed Mossley's fate as the Lilywhites went down 3-1 to Conference North neighbours Droylsden in a full blooded friendly at Seel Park this afternoon.
Droylsden, fresh from a 5-1 win over a full strength Macclesfield Town, looked full of running in the early stages but didn't really trouble trialist keeper Stuart Lindsay until the 20th minute when Robbie Talbot fired home after Dave Cameron's flick had kidded the Mossley defence.
Mossley were finding it difficult to break down the visitors mainly due to some poor final balls into the box. The Lilywhites best chance of the half fell to trialist Steve Owens who fired wide when he latched onto Rhodri Giggs' superb run and cross. Giggs finished the move needing treatment after crashing into the perimeter wall.
The second half became an end to end affair but Droylsden's finishing was the more clinical. Lee Morris tapped home a cross from the left on 64 minutes and ten minutes later Jody Banim scored with a brilliant chip into the top corner but 3-0 was flattering for the Bloods.
Mossley finally gained the consolation their overall play deserved when Josh Howard's sent Owens scampering down the right wing and his low near post cross was turned home by Phil Denney.
Mossley then enjoyed possibly their best spell of the game with Josh Howard the orchestrator and twice came close to reducing the deficit, but of course it isn't results that matter at this stage and Mossley can be pleased with the progress made thus far.
